Spend on a Trend is right “On Trend”

Trendfashion1 and Frock of Ages collaborated on a joint article about the “Spend on a Trend” event at Heritage Hall on Main Street, Vancouver.  Our plan was to see if the designers were “On trend” with the international trends and we were very pleasantly surprised. We looked at women’s clothing from Elroy, Adhesif Clothing, Carny Love and Carnal Design, accessories from Clutch Jewels, Pink Gargoyle Designs, Zula Designs, Sugar & Candy, Anya Leather and Viva Dosa. Congratulations to the “Spend on A Trend” people for picking good designers that are “on Trend”.

If you live in Vancouver, is it a really worthwhile to pick up something that has been designed and made in Vancouver. Our own designers have many items that reflect the international fashion trends. Support local designers and be up to date with the latest fashion trends.

 Trend 1 Fall/Winter 2013/14 -Tweed Run/Biking

Traditional looks mixed with different patterns such as tweed, checks, cable either re-designed such as the work from Adhesif, Sugar & Candy, Phaulet or new such as Elroy. This trend comes from the Tweed Run bicycling movement sweeping Europe and North America.

Trend 2 Fall/Winter 2012/13-Art & Craft

Trumpet skirts, mid-length worn to the knee, stoles/caplets that are two-tones and use patchwork. Part of the craft combined with art movement often seen in Adhesif’s work.

Trend 3 Fall/Winter 2012/13-Baroque

Glamour, over the top Baroque clothing and accessories using scrollwork, jewels and pearls

Trend 4 Fall/Winter 2012/13-Space Age versus Sports

Space age, duct tape metallic, synthetic  looks like injection molded, think of Judy Jetson. and Jane Fonda in Bararella  which reflects Carny Love aesthetic.

Trend 5 Fall/Winter 2012/13-New classics

Simple, classic and quality but not boring wool dresses and coats, designed with fitted top and flare skirt. Part of the “New classics” trend. Elroy has more in other colours.

Trend 6

Belt bag, a very fashion forward replacement for the fanny pack. Do not need to have a handbag.

Trend 7 Spring/Summer 2013/14-Using Scarf /Border prints

Scarf  border prints but re-designed in a completely different way such as Carnal Design using a colour blocking effect both in a tailored and soft silhouette.

Colour Trends for Spring/Summer 2013/14

Accessory designs from Viva Diosa and Anya Leather reflected the colour trends for next summer. They both had interesting leather product designs that if you bought them now you would be on trend for the next couple of years.

Thanks to Spend on Trend organizers for bringing local fashion to local Fashionista’s. Keep up the good work.  There was only one item I was looking for but did not find. It was a knit/woven top, skirt or dress with a peplum. Maybe Mulierose  or another designer will quickly whip one up. Watch for further collaborations with TrendFashion1 and Frock of Ages.
